Labor forgets laws they have already passed

I remember passing these Bills – but Labor seems to have forgotten.

I was bemused when reading Labor’s 2018 election platform to come across promises to pass four pieces of legislation which were each already passed. For three of these Bill my vote, given after careful consideration as an Independent of the likely impact of the Bill on the well-being, freedom and interests of all Victorians, especially the most vulnerable, was critical to the successful passage of the Bill.

These four measures were:

  • Portable Long Service Leave for community service workers, security workers and contract cleaning workers (I supported this Bill after securing a temporary exemption for NDIS services to ensure that disability services were not put at risk)
  • Changes to the Residential Tenancy Act to ensure greater protection for renters
  • The Labour Hire Licensing Bill to protect trafficked workers
  • A mandatory reporting scheme for abuse of people with disability and a mandatory disability worker registration and accreditation scheme.

I remember passing these Bills – but Labor seems to have forgotten.
