Werribee has been forgotten when it comes to roads

Why it Matters

Wyndham is expected to experience one of the highest increases in population of all Local Government Areas in Victoria over the coming decades.  

When it comes to improving roads and addressing traffic congestion it seems that Werribee is once again forgotten. Over the years, I have heard from so many constituents in Werribee who have struggled with traffic congestion. I understand that this is a very frustrating issue for many people (myself included) and it seems like nothing has been done about it and no one is listening. 

Unnecessarily long and stressful travel times adversely impact quality of life including family time and health.

What Needs to be Done

Some of the priorities constituents have brought to my attention include:

  • Need for additional river bridges 
  • More car parking at train stations
  • Upgrades to Duncan’s Rd and Heaths Rd
  • Bringing forward the Cherry St, Werribee St and Hoppers crossing removal (Currently set as 2022)
  • Better more rational sequencing of traffic lights

My Solution

The reason that very little has been done to address traffic congestion in the Werribee area comes down to the fact that it has been a safe seat for Labor, meaning that such projects have not been high on the priority list for successive governments. I am committed to continue lobbying the government on critical issues like these. As our Werribee continues to grow and increasingly more people travel to and from this area, I can assure you a solid commitment that increasing traffic congestion issues will be addressed.

    The growth of Wyndham and surrounding areas is locked in due to the Regional Rail and massive investment in the Westgate Freeway and now the Tunnel.

    The duplication of what are soon to become arterial roads, should be undertaken EARLIER so that the community is not paralysed in going about its weekly business, and costs of delivering goods skyrocket as trucks and delivery vehicles queue in all-day traffic jams.

    The practice to revisit relatively newly developed areas to retrospectively duplicate roads that should have been built that way, is horrendously inefficient.
